NGOs rally together for lockdown relief efforts
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
As various organisations coordinate relief efforts amid the coronavirus lockdown - one of them is warning a humanitarian crisis is unfolding on the ground.
The South African National Zakah Fund says it's been working with other religious organisations to provide aid to struggling families in the country.
The NGO's Nazeer Vadia says they've been distributing food, blankets and hygiene packs to communities in KZN - including distributing meals at 11 shelters around Durban.

He's urged South Africans to rally around those who are struggling to put food on the table. "It's critical, some places where we have gone to give food hampers and essentials, where these people have nothing to eat if no one offers to assist. said Vadia.
"And we realise being on the ground, doing this work year-round, the actual impact the lockdown will have on these people," he adds.
Vadia says it was a no-brainer for us that we have to be on the ground and we have to appeal to the public to assist us in our project. They work tirelessly to make sure they have enough to survive and get through the lockdown
