The new Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, Nontembeko Boyce says she is prepared to work even harder as the new speaker.
Boyce takes over from Lydia Johnson, who served as the speaker of the legislature since 2013.
The former Chief Whip says she is prepared to work even harder as the new speaker.
"I'll ensure that there is diversity in the province and adherence to the rule of law. We want to see progress and ensure that we see clean governance of the people of KZN."
Boyce encouraged the members of the legislature to dedicate themselves to serving the province.
"We hope that all those elected to represent their parties - will put the people of KwaZulu-Natal first and ensure there's robust oversight on behalf of the people of KZN," Boyce said.
Former Harry Gwala Mayor Mluleki Ndobe has been elected Deputy Speaker of the KZN Legislature.
Ndobe was arrested in mid-March for alleged involvement in the 2017 murder of uMzimkhulu councillor - Sindiso Magaqa.
The murder charges against him were provisionally withdrawn a week after his arrest.
He will serve in his new position - alongside Nomcebeko Boyce - who's been elected Speaker.
