Newly-elected CEO promises to take IsiMangaliso to new heights
The newly appointed CEO of Isimangaliso Wetland Park, Sibusiso Bukhosini says he's prepared for the challenges that lie ahead for the conservation authority under his leadership.
Bukhosini previously served as municipal manager at uMkhanyakude District Municipality.
During his tenure in management, Bukhosini obtained three clean audits for the district's Umhlabuyalingana Local Municipality.
Bukhosini holds a Master’s Degree in Environment and Development - specialising in Protected Areas Management.
He is also not new to KZN's conservation sector - having served nine years at KZN Wildlife overseeing the management of protected areas in the northern Ukahlamba region.
He says the management team are already working on Isimangaliso's corporate strategy.
"If you look at IsiMangaliso - a lot of work has been done from a conservation point of view in terms of sustaining or making sure that that the park lives up to the standards as per the expectations of the World Heritage Convention Act and regulations thereof - which is ensuring the ecological integrity of the park at large.
"At present, IsiMangaliso is not actively involved in terms of managing the conservation aspects of the park because there is Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife collaboratively working with IsiMangaliso in that arena. Likewise, with the commercial operations. It's another area to determine the extent to which this relationship is still relevant or if it needs to be reviewed," Bukhosini said.
Bukhosini says they also want to ensure that they continue to build relationships with their stakeholders.
Bukhosini takes over the reins from acting CEO, Professor Anis Karodia.
Established conservationist, Andrew Zaloumis stepped down as head of the authority late last year after 20 years in the conservation field.
