The baby girl, who has since been named Sibani-Sethu Gabrielle, which means Our Light, was brought to the surface during a dramatic three-hour long rescue on Baracuda Road after being stuck some seven metres in the drain in February.

The 32-year-old was granted bail and will make her third appearance in the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court.

In her last appearance, the woman's attorney, Jacques Botha made an application to relax the woman's bail conditions, as she desperately wanted to see the baby.

The court ruled that any contact the woman is to have with the child should be supervised and at the social worker's office.

At the time, Botha told reporters that the woman was happy that she got to see the baby. The child is being cared for at a place of safety.

He had previously told the court his client could have an underlying medical condition which may have led her to abandon the child.

Botha said it is possible she is suffering from pre and post-natal depression.
