Newcastle turns attention to service delivery after Eskom settlement

Newcastle Mayor Xolani Dube says now that the municipality has settled their debt to Eskom, the municipality can focus on other critical areas of service delivery.
Dube made the remarks at a press briefing on Tuesday.
This comes the power utility confirmed that the northern KZN town had cleared its massive debt, freeing itself from a long-standing burden.

Eskom also handed over a letter of confirmation that the amount of R264 million has been paid in totality.
Dube says what's helped their municipality achieve the milestone was sticking to a clear plan.
"We went out to our residents to encourage them to pay their accounts so that we can have enough money to pay Eskom and other institutions that we owe, but to be more specific, we did instill financial discipline."
