New police forensic lab coming to KZN - Mchunu
Updated | By Jacaranda News
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu says new forensic
labs will be built in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and the Free
State.

This will help speed up DNA testing and reduce toxicology backlogs.
Mchunu told the media during Friday's release of the latest crime statistics that these new facilities will boost the South African Police Service's capacity to process evidence faster, improve the justice system, and fight crime more effectively.

"We want to improve the efficiency of our forensic services, which we regard as critical and impacting directly on the work of police," said Mchunu.
"In the few weeks to come, we'll be signing a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Science and Technology, which has indicated their willingness for us to access their lab in the CSIR."
