National state of disaster extended to 15 January

The national state of disaster has been extended by another month.
It will now run until 15 January 2022.
Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele says this follows the recommendation made by the National Coronavirus Command Council to Cabinet.
He's urged people to be vigilant and avoid large social gatherings, in the wake of rapidly increasing Covid-19 cases in parts of the country.
"The national state of disaster is aimed at responding to the special circumstances presented by the Covid-19 pandemic. In the festive season while most of us will be taking a well deserved festive break we must remember that Covid-19 does not take a holiday."
Gungubele briefed the media on the outcomes of the Cabinet meeting.
On the international travel bans imposed on South Africa, he said they support calls to lift them immediately.
The US, countries in Europe and other regions imposed bans on travel from southern Africa over the new Omicron variant last month.
