N3TC warns of winter driving dangers

As a cold front moves across parts of the country, the N3 Toll Concession has urged drivers to think carefully about when they hit the road this winter.

It warns that cold temperatures, especially early in the morning and late at night, increase the risk of crashes.

Spokesperson Thania Dhoogra said road conditions and the time of day both play a role in the number and severity of accidents.

She has also warned against the excessive use of heaters.

Dhoogra said they are one of the main factors linked to drowsiness behind the wheel, particularly among truck drivers.

"Winter school holidays have commenced, and many travellers have already begun taking to the road. We urge road users to please take this into consideration when planning their trips," said Dhoogra.

"As much as possible, consider driving in daylight hours and when visibility is clear. Avoid distractions and prevent fatigue and drowsiness while driving by taking regular breaks, getting fresh air and staying hydrated.

"Adopt defensive driving techniques and stay informed of travel conditions by following official news sources," she added.
