Staff at the Mangosuthu University of
Technology in Durban say the sentencing of the men who killed their colleague
marks an essential step in their collective healing.

Sixty-one-year-old Chanlall Dwarika was abducted in June 2023 outside a property he was renovating in Sea Cow Lake.
On Thursday, the Durban High Court sentencedThobani Mhlongo and Kwanele Makhaye to life imprisonment for his murder.

The third accused, Siyabonga Mahaye, was handed an effective 20-year sentence for kidnapping and robbery.
In a statement, MUT said its staff were relieved to hear that justice was served.
Management said that while the verdict will never bring Dwarika back, they are comforted in knowing that those responsible for his death are behind bars.
