Murder of Umzimkhulu Municipality speaker 'a clear political plot'
The ANC Youth League in the Harry Gwala Region in KZN claims the murder of Umzimkhulu Municipality Speaker, Khayalethu Tobela, was politically motivated.
The league says Tobela had been in line to take over as secretary of the ANC in the region.
Tobela died in hospital at the weekend after being shot a number of times at his home on Thursday.
Regional Secretary of ANC Youth League in the Harry Gwala Region, Qiniso Mnguni says Tobela had been unofficially nominated by more than forty of the sixty branches for the position.
He says his murder was a clear political plot.
"Inasmuch as we are disheartened as with regards to the killing of Comrade Tobela, we believe his killing was politically motivated. He was killed on the basis that he was contesting a regional secretary position in the next conference of the ANC in Harry Gwala. We believe it's because he was nominated by a majority of branches to take over the position," he said.
