A senior Richmond municipal official has been gunned down in the Midlands town.
The municipality's spokesperson, Sbonelo
Bhengu, confirmed to Newswatch that municipal manager Edward Sibusiso Sithole was
shot dead outside a school in Victoria Street this morning.
"This morning, the municipal manager reported on duty as normal. And then at around 8:30am he received a call and came rushing out of his office to go to a testing ground centre - which is one of our municipal units," he said.

Bhengu says the municipality is in shock.
"It's quite a shock for the community, and the municipality staff. And more for his family - who thought when he left home he'd be back home today. Now he is no more," he said.
The circumstances leading to Sithole's death are still unknown at this stage. However, two men are believed to have opened fire on his vehicle.
Bhengu says Sithole was due to begin a new job with the Umgeni Municipality this month.
