Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A five-year-old Mtubatuba girl who was scalded with boiling water, allegedly by her mother, is being monitored by social workers.
The child was assaulted in this way for apparently losing her school shoes.
Her 30-year-old mother was arrested at the weekend after the girl's teachers noticed the burns and alerted authorities.
The child was then taken for treatment.
Her mother's been charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
She's due to apply for bail next week.
Social Development spokesperson, Mhlabunzima Memela says the child and her siblings were immediately removed from their home, and put in the care of relatives.
