Updated | By Silindelo Masikane
ANC Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu has revealed that the party believes EFF supporters threw teargas powder in the public gallery on Thursday night.
Mthembu says the EFF and DA must shoulder the blame for the mayhem that ensued ahead of the State of the Nation Address.
Mthembu labelled Thursday evening's events as a national shame.
He a says a criminal and parliamentary investigation must follow.
"A clear message must be sent to these individuals that people's institutions cannot be attacked and be subjected to acts of criminality with impunity," says Mthembu.
Mthembu says cameras within Parliament should be able to identify all the guilty parties.
