"Teachers should come as scheduled. If in the Free State they are finished on Friday, good luck, but other provinces can't finish on Friday. We don't want to continue vaccinations next term. We want to be done with vaccinations by Wednesday next week," Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said on Monday morning.

Motshekga gave an update on the sector's response to the impact of Covid-19 at schools.

This after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Sunday night that the country is going into level 4 lockdown amid the wave of infections.

Motshekga confirmed that over 200 000 teachers have been vaccinated since the start of the rollout.

"I was very delighted that KZN had done 60 000 alone and all the other provinces the MEC has said that when they get their batches, they will be done. So I am glad that we have reached 200 000, but of the 582 564 that we had planned to do."
