Motshekga: Dept monitoring any possible spike in Covid-19 at schools

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says the department is keeping a close watch on any possible spike in Covid-19 cases at schools.
Primary school children head back to the classroom for full-time lessons from 26 June.
Motshekga says other activities like sports are also being monitored.

The minister addressed Parliament's education committee on its preparations for the third Covid-19 wave.
"On contact sports, again that was informed by a real situation where suddenly we had infections in a very short space of time when inter-schools sports started.
"It just happened within a week that we had more than 100 schools that were infected, then we had to say 'What has caused the problem?' and we did pick up that, amongst others, it was big school activities which is your inter-sports and also contact sport like rugby."
