A 30-year-old motorist has been shot and killed and another wounded during a cash-in-transit heist in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape.
National spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo says a gang shot at a cash vehicle on the N2 and brought it to a halt.
They disarmed three security guards and forced them to open the safe - before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money and three firearms.
Naidoo says two motorists were struck by stray bullets - killing one of them.
He says two suspects were arrested within hours.
"The national commissioner has condemned the killing of an innocent motorist that was passing by as well as the wounding of a second motorist - that was also passing by the incident of a cash and transit heist," Naidoo said.
