Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
eThekwini Municipality has been given the green light to open more beaches to the public as the country approaches the festive season.
The KZN Tourism and Environmental Affairs Department says numerous tests confirmed that Umdloti main, Umdloti Tidal and Casuarina beaches are safe for swimming.
The beaches were reopened on Saturday.
The eThekwini Municipality's Msawakhe Mayisela says they will continue working with experts to ensure the water is safe for holidaymakers.
"It is a clear demonstration that our city is open for business. We are therefore inviting all tourists to come to eThekwini and enjoy these summer holidays.
"We will continue to monitor our water because at the end of the day we have got a responsibility of ensuring that we guard against anything that may pose a threat to the lives of our tourists."
