More efforts needed to curb road deaths: AA
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Automobile Association of South Africa says more needs to be done to curb the carnage on our roads.

The association was responding to the preliminary Easter road death figures released by the Department of Transport yesterday.
Yesterday, 20 people including at least 18 pupils were also killed in a head-on crash involving a minibus taxi and a truck outside Pretoria.

AA spokesperson, Layton Beard, says not enough is being done to drastically reduce road fatalities.
"50% of all the deaths on the roads were passengers, 25% of all the deaths were pedestrians. That speaks to a certain behaviour among road users. Unfortunately, road behaviour among motorists in South Africa remains extremely poor. We still see drivers taking chances, not obeying rules of the road and not giving consideration to other people on the road including motorists and pedestrians ," he said.
