More than 39k teens register for Covid-19 jab
Almost 40 000
teenagers registered to receive their Covid-19 vaccination on government’s
electronic portal.
Wednesday saw the start of the Department of Health’s campaign to jab the 12 to 17 cohort with a single dose.
A total of 6 843 young people were vaccinated on Wednesday.
According to Stats SA population estimate for 2021, there are 6.5 million teenagers in South Africa.
Gauteng province is leading with 15 573 registered for the vaccine, followed by Western Cape with 10 589.
Northern Cape recorded the lowest with only 479 teenagers registering for the jab.
KwaZulu-Natal province has the most teenagers in South Africa but only 5 676 registered for the vaccine.
The department aims to vaccinate at least 50% of teenagers before the start of the 2022 academic year.
