Molefe's Eskom golden handshake reigned in
The Democratic Alliance has welcomed the Minister of Public Enterprises, Lynn Brown's, rejection of a R30 million pay-out to former Eskom-boss, Brian Molefe.
Minister Brown confirmed speculation of the R30 million pay-out when she rejected the proposal at the weekend saying that Molefe already received a bonus for the role he played in turning the embattled power utility around.
"After leaving Eskom under the most swirling clouds of state capture allegations, and close collusion with the Guptas, and then being rewarded with an ANC seat as a member of parliament, Molefe does not deserve one further Rand from the public purse," the DA's Natasha Mazzone told Jacaranda FM News.
The DA also called on the board of Eskom to revert to Minister Brown with a new proposal.
"Brian Molefe must receive a golden handshake of R0.00," the party says.
The party also says saving over R30 million at Eskom would be a boost to the finances of the utility.
"We hope that Minister Brown will use the new backbone she has found to reject Molefe's massive pay-out, to take actions against other wrongdoing at Eskom too," the party says.
