Mkhwanazi up first at SAPS commission of inquiry
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
The judicial commission of inquiry into alleged interference in our criminal justice system is likely to uncover a lot more than what Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi had alleged.

That's according to chairperson, Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga.
He says the KZN police chief will be the first to be called in for consultation.
"The imminent consultation is going to be with Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi, but regarding whom the first witness will be, we are not able to say at this stage."
Madlanga says this consultation will be key in shaping how the rest of the inquiry unfolds.
The inquiry's investigating claims that criminal syndicates have infiltrated law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
It will also examine whether politicians, prosecutors, and other public officials enabled or turned a blind eye to criminal activity.

Madlanga admits the deadlines set are tight but says they'll do their best to deliver results.
"Consultations and investigations are likely to yield a lot more than what was referred to in the allegations of the 6th of July. So the timelines, I must say, do appear to be quite tight.
“The imminent consultation is going to be with left in general, but regarding whom the first witness will be. We are not able to say at this stage.”
Madlanga spoke at a media briefing in Sandton on Monday.
