10-year-old Miguel’s body was found in a bush in Phoenix last September, a month after he went missing from Sydenham.

Mohammed Ebrahim has been charged with the boy's murder.

The trial begins just over a year after the gruesome discovery of Miguel's body, that was made by a police sniffer dog just meters away from Ebrahim's home.

The dog and its handler had been pursuing robbers when they stumbled upon the body in a bush on Longbury Drive in Phoenix.

CCTV footage from a fast food outlet showed Ebrahim with the ten-year-old boy on the day he disappeared.

Ebrahim is known to the Louw family. He claims he and Miguel's mother, Raylene Louw, were in a relationship, but Raylene denies this.

During the last court appearance, the State indicated that it plans to call up 23 witnesses.

It says it will show that the boy's murder was planned and premeditated.

Although the autopsy results are inconclusive, it's believed Miguel was strangled.
