The KZN Provincial Executive Council says Bheki Ntuli will probe allegations of sabotage. As Newswatch’s Nushera Soodyal reports, news of the investigation was shared during a virtual council meeting chaired by Premier Sihle Zikalala yesterday.

The site’s been on fire since last Monday.

The council says it's received a report confirming that intense smoke from the blaze has now been brought under control.

It says if the allegations are substantiated, the culprits who started the fire will be prosecuted.

Earlier this week, Zikalala said that local government’s been trying to come up with a permanent solution.

The flames blanketed the site and its surrounding areas with thick smog.

A task team’s been set up to assess the municipality’s ability to cope with waste management at the landfill site.
