Five years today, 34 miners who were killed during strike action at Lonmin's mine, in the North West, are being remembered.

Miners embarked on an illegal strike on August 12, 2012. Ten people died days prior to August 16. The death toll rose to 44 when when strike action ceased.
The SA Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) are hosting commemorations at the mine.
During commemorations, widows of the men who died during the massacre were honoured.
DA leader Mmusi Maimane, UDM's Bantu Holomisa and the EFF's Julius Malema are also in attendance.
