Mariannhill man arrested for running bootleg alcohol factory

A Mariannhill man allegedly found in possession of counterfeit alcohol worth over a quarter of a million rand is currently behind bars.

The 31-year-old made his first appearance in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
He was nabbed during a raid led by the Provincial Organised Crime Unit.
KZN police spokesperson Carmen Rhynes says suspected illicit vodka was also found being manufactured at the site in the west of Durban.

"Members of the Provincial Organized Crime Unit assisted by the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit, and the provincial counterfeit goods unit acted on intelligence driven information regarding the manufacturing and illegal distribution of counterfeit alcohol.
"They executed a search warrant at the identified premises, and a suspect was found on site and placed immediately under arrest. The suspect was arrested for the Contravention of the Liquor Act and the Counterfeit Goods Act."
