Mantashe appointed acting Police Minister

Gwede Mantashe is now the acting Police
Minister.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced his appointment in a statement on Tuesday night saying Mantashe will straddle both his current role in Mineral and Petroleum Resources and the police portfolio until the end of the month.
Professor Firoz Cachalia, who is serving out his notice period at Wits University, will take over in August.
Ramaphosa placed Police Minister Senzo Mchunu on special leave after allegations of political interference and criminal infiltration in police operations.

On Tuesday, National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola revealed that his deputy, Shadrack Sibiya, was asked to take a leave of absence.
Sibiya is one of the senior police officials named by KZN police chief Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi as having interfered in investigations into organised crime syndicates.
