Mandeni councillor probed over R100K bribe

Council Speaker Phindile Sishi says a community member alerted her to a leaked voice recording that surfaced on social media.

The councillor later admitted it was her voice.


It's still unclear what the money was for but Sishi says the incident happened in December while the contractor was working in the ward.

She says asking contractors for money goes against municipal policy. 


Sishi say the council's ethics committee met on Friday to discuss the matter.  "  The committee, which is dealing with the issue, will take a decision that the matter be taken to council, with a recommendation from the subcommittees to investigate."
