Management of public spaces urged to enforce mask mandate
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The South African Police Service (SAPS) is again warning management of malls, stores, complexes and other public spaces that they face prosecution if they allow people who are not wearing masks into their premises.
It is a criminal offence to not wear a face mask when out in public areas such as shopping centres, food outlets and on public transport.
But government says for the time being - the liability lies with those tasked with ensuring compliance.

SAPS spokesperson, Vishnu Naidoo says there have been incidents across the country where people have refused to wear masks.
"We have had incidents but they have been sporadic, where management or security had to refuse people entry into public premises because they refuse to wear a mask.
"In the greater majority, there is significant compliance but there are one or two incidents where people are choosing not to or refusing to comply to wear a mask."
