Man killed in Phoenix house fire
An
investigation is underway into the cause of a fire that claimed the life of a
man and left a woman injured in Phoenix, north of Durban.
Firefighters battled the flames late into Monday evening at the home on Caneside Drive.
KZN VIP says when its medics arrived at the property, they found the couple's neighbours trying to get into the burning home.
But their efforts were hampered by the intense, fast-moving flames.
According to a statement issued last night, when community members and first responders managed to gain entry, they discovered the man lying in one of the rooms.
KZN VIP's Gareth Naidoo says he was declared dead at the scene.
A woman, who is believed to be his wife, suffered critical burns and is recovering in hospital.
