Man jumps from 7th floor fleeing Durban police drug raid

A man who survived a fall from the 7th floor of a block of flats in the Durban CBD on Friday morning, he jumped while allegedly trying to flee from police.

KwaZulu-Natal police have confirmed that drugs worth an estimated street value of over R700 000 were found in the 41-year-old's apartment at the John Ross building.


Police spokesperson, Jay Naicker says officers raided the building after receiving information about drug-related activities on the property.


"When police officers penetrated the flat, the suspect attempted to flee and jumped from the seventh floor injuring himself in the process," he said. 


Naicker says police seized cocaine and other drugs. 


He says the suspect is in hospital and is under police guard. 


According to Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson, the man landed on a ledge on the fourth floor.
