Man critical after collapse and dog attack

A Pietermaritzburg man is currently in a critical condition in hospital.

Craig Botha from KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service says the 40-year-old collapsed due to a medical condition on Ivy Road last night.
Botha says he was then mauled by a dog.
"Following the collapse, he was attacked by a pit bull. KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service responded swiftly to the scene.

Paramedics provided advanced life support, stabilizing the patient before transporting him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
The patient is currently listed in critical condition.
KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service urges community members to be mindful of their surroundings and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and that of others."
Members of Mi7 Emergency Medical Services were also there.
In a statement, officials say family members had already begun applying pressure to the man's wounds.
"The man had sustained nearly two dozen puncture wounds from bites to his neck and face. It is estimated that he lost at least two litres of blood. He was found conscious but in critical condition.
Fortunately, before medical teams arrived, family members and bystanders had applied direct pressure to the wounds using a towel interventions which likely saved his life at the time."
