A 37-year-old man is due to appear in the Maphumulo Magistrates' Court today after allegedly being found in possession of two AK 47s and 60 rounds of ammunition in the Montebello area yesterday.
Police say the man was arrested after being intercepted while entering his place of residence.
The man is believed to be an employee at a local hospital in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
SAPS spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says the man tried to enter the hospital with a bag and allegedly refused to be searched. He was then denied access.
Zwane says police then received information about a man with firearms in his possession and proceeded to his home.
"He was immediately arrested and taken to Nsuze SAPS for detention. He was charged with the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition," he said.
