Man arrested over ActionSA shooting

A 40-year-old man is due to appear in court this week for allegedly opening fire at an ActionSA branch launch in Sydenham.

Party leaders Herman Mashaba and Zwakele Mncwango were attending the event in Ward 25 yesterday when shots were fired.
According to the party, members at the scene managed to overpower and disarm the gunman.
The launch was suspended following the incident.

Police spokesperson Thenjiswa Ngcobo says the suspect is facing attempted murder charges.
"Police in Sydenham have arrested a man who allegedly fired shots toward the victim. The incident occurred in Kenneth Road. The suspect will appear before Durban Magistrate’s Court tomorrow."
