Man arrested for conspiracy to murder government officials over COVID-19

A man who threatened to assassinate senior government officials over the COVID-19 pandemic is appearing in a Gauteng court.

He was arrested in Ratanda south of Johannesburg on Thursday.


The man had allegedly accused government of lying about the existence of the coronavirus in the country.


Hawks spokesperson, Katlego Mogale says there's been an investigation for several weeks after he posted remarks on social media.


Mogale says an arrest was made after he allegedly stalked some members from the Hawks with threatening messages and death threats.

He was arrested last Thursday for incidents that occurred from April this year.


He continuously stalked some of the members from DPCI with threatening messages and death threats. 


He also threatened to assassinate senior government officials.


He has also claimed responsibility for the death of two DPCI members in the Mahikeng recently during a standoff with cash in transit robbers.
