Mammoth task ahead for SARS new acting commissioner

The South African Revenue Service says its new acting commissioner, Mark Kingon faces a number of big challenges.

, with the President saying he had lost confidence in his ability to run SARS.

SARS spokesperson, Sandile Memela says Kingon will have a lot on his plate.

"The task would be to rehabilitate the public image and profile of the organisation. SARS needs to focus on collecting R1,217 trillion," Memela said.  

Memela says Moyane was suspended after refusing to resign from the post. 

"We will also institute a disciplinary hearing and investigation on the reasons for that. One of them is the handling of the Makwakwa matter, VAT refund and the impact on the public," he said.
