Mmusi Maimane’s One South Africa Movement (OSA)
has announced that it will be participating in this year’s local
government elections.
The movement’s plans were confirmed by Maimane at a media briefing on Monday morning.
“I am honestly excited about the opportunity that 2021 presents,” the former Democratic Alliance (DA) leader said.
“We have decided that One SA Movement will be participating in the 2021 local government elections, working in partnership and in coalition with independent candidates.

“We are convinced that the change in our country that we desperately and urgently need requires a change in both government and governance.”
While the organisation isn't in the position to contest as a collective, it will be supporting independent candidates.
Maimane said candidates will not be chosen by OSA but by members of the community.
"I want to say that independent candidates will come from their communities recognised by their people and ultimately meet the criteria which will ensure that we can deliver the change that citizens want."
