LISTEN: How SA tourists survived charging elephant encounter
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
A weekend away at a game reserve for a South African family could have taken a turn for the worst - if it weren't for the first instincts to remain calm.
A male elephant charged a boat of tourists in the Chobe River - in Botswana - an encounter captured on camera by TV and radio presenter, Su-an Müller Marais.
The video initially shows the mammal grazing in the waters before it storms towards the boat.
The footage - which has grabbed the attention of international wildlife sites - has since accumulated just over 80 000 views on YouTube.
Speaking to Newswatch, Marais says the trip was to celebrate their mother-in-law's 60th birthday late last month.
She says they are lucky to have escaped serious injury.
