Liquor Council threatens 'extreme' measures to challenge alcohol ban
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The National Traders Liquor Council says three attempts to discuss the suspension of alcohol sale with government have failed.
It says it's been writing to the National Coronavirus Command Council to address its concerns.
The council represents around 35 000 taverns and liquor distributors.
Spokesperson, Lucky Ntimane says they're asking for some financial support, in the form of a once-off payment of R20 000.

He says they'd also like a 75% refund on all license fees paid this year and a two-year payment suspension.
Ntimane says they have seen the taxi industry stand up for its needs over the COVID-19 lockdown and today, minibuses are carrying full loads.
"All the options are on the table, to either side of the extreme. Whatever we decide will be extreme.
"We are not going to take this lying down and the government should be aware that that is not a threat it's a promise that we're not going to take this lying down.
"All options are on the table and we're going to consider them as we move along," says Ntimane.
