Thirty-year-old Mvuyisi Moguda made his first appearance in the Umlazi Magistrate's Court today in connection with the murder of Lindokuhle Cele.

The 23-year-old Cele was stabbed at an Umlazi butchery on Thursday.

He died on arrival at hospital.

Mvuyisi Moguda walked into the dock clad in a black bomber jacket and torn jeans.

His hands were wrapped in bandages - apparently to cover the cuts he's said to have sustained from the alleged murder weapon.

Moguda told the court he'd be opting for legal aid - and that he intends applying for bail.

The State says it will oppose bail on the grounds that it's a schedule 6 matter. The bail hearing is expected to take place next week.

Outside court, Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza said Cele's death is unfair.

"I just imagine when someone is doing this, while others were watching and taking photos. It is so unfair," she says.

The family of Cele says his alleged killer openly spoke of his hate for him.

His aunt, Nombuso Cele says her nephew had gone to buy meat in the late afternoon when he was attacked.
