Republican Troy Nehls has tabled the so-called Afrikaner Act which seeks to grant Priority-2 refugee status to white South Africans, who he claims are being persecuted.

Nehls says his bill gives Afrikaners a path to safety from what he's described as, "government-backed racial discrimination."

The proposed legislation follows US President Donald Trump's condemnation of the country's land reform policies.

In an executive order to cut aid to South Africa in February, Trump offered asylum to Afrikaners.

Lamola's dismissed Nehls' claims as false and propagandistic saying they misrepresent South Africa's foreign policy.

He's reaffirmed the country's commitment to legislation that is shaped by national interests and complies with international law.
