Residents in Ladysmith are facing eviction by farm owners after reportedly living on these farms for decades with most still waiting for houses promised to them.

Speaking after a community meeting attended by EFF leader Julius Malema in Ladysmith yesterday, provincial spokesperson Marshall Dlamini said these were major issues brought up by residents. Malema is on a three-day campaign throughout the province and will be addressing residents in eMpangeni, Pietermartizburg and uMlazi this weekend.

Dlamini says people came out in their numbers.

"Some say they have been living on those farms for decades and farm owners just decided to evict them," he said.

"Obviously there is corruption in terms of what is happening with housing where people are getting houses while some others have been on a waiting list since 1997. They are tired of the ANC oppression in the area," Dlamini said.
