KZN VIP calls for inquiry after officers shot by police

A KZN security company is demanding an inquiry
after four of its tactical officers were killed by police in the Eastern Cape.

The shootout involving members of KZN VIP happened near Ndabakazi in February.
Police say their National Intervention Unit got a tip-off about a group travelling with firearms in two cars.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson Siphokazi Mawisa says officers tried to stop the vehicles, but the seven suspects sped off.
" A chase ensued, and back-up was called to assist on the chase, and while they were between Ndabakazi and Butterworth, the alleged suspects shot at the police, who then retaliated.

"On investigation, seven people were fatally wounded, and firearms were recovered on their vehicles."
KZN VIP has said in a statement that their officers were wrongly accused of being CIT suspects and carrying unlicensed firearms.
The company says it will include video footage circulating on social media as evidence to prove their innocence.
Police watchdog IPID has launched a probe into the incident.
