KZN teacher unions question department’s CFO hire
Updated | By Tsakane Mhlongo
Teachers’ unions have questioned the appointment of the Department of Education in KZN's new Chief Financial Officer.

On Tuesday, the provincial department announced Yali Joli as the CFO, having previously served in the same role for the KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
Joli resigned from her post earlier this year, before the finalisation of a financial misconduct probe against her.
The National Teachers Union said in a statement that it is astonished by the appointment, given the department’s financial woes.
NATU says this demonstrates a failure to uphold the principle of good governance.
NAPTOSA echoed the sentiment, with KZN spokesperson Thirona Moodley saying the department must justify its decision to hire Joli.
" The allegations against her were unfortunately not tested before her resignation and will stay with her unless she defends these allegations. The KZN department must justify this appointment.
"The department is the biggest education department in the country, with a large, complex budget. The integrity of any CFO must be beyond reproach. Sadly, this is not the case with this appointment."
