KZN storms leave one dead in Port Shepstone

Preliminary reports by officials on the south
coast have revealed this week's severe weather led to one fatality.

Violent and gale-force winds downed trees and power lines in some parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday, while other areas were battered by heavy downpours and snowfall.
The Ray Nkonyeni Municipality said one person died in a car crash they believe was caused by the inclement weather.
It said over 60% of wards in Port Shepstone were affected, with dozens of homes partially destroyed.
In the area’s ward 24 alone, over 40 homes were affected.

Municipal spokesperson Nomusa Zulu said assessments are on ongoing.
"Most of our 36 wards have suffered damage in one way or the other. We have about seven homes that were completely destroyed, and family members are living elsewhere currently.
"We have a report of someone who, as a result of the storm, was involved in a motor vehicle accident and unfortunately passed away. We also have a record of someone who was hospitalised," said Zulu.
