KZN sees an increase in daily Covid-19 cases

KwaZulu-Natal has recorded a notable increase in the latest Covid-19 cases amid the warning that the fifth wave is nearing.

The province accounted for 1 056 new cases in the last 24 hours leading up to Tuesday evening, representing 28% of the national new cases.


The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported 3 785 new Covid-19 cases, with the positivity rate standing at 17.6%.


Gauteng continues to account for the majority of cases - at 1 685 new infections.

Western Cape follows with 473 new cases.


The National Department of Health reported 7 Covid-19 related deaths of which 2 occurred over the past 24 to 48 hours.


This brings the total fatalities to 100 377.


There has been an increase of 68 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours with 2 232 people currently admitted in both private and public health facilities.
