Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
Two security guards have been handed lengthy sentences for fraud linked to a cash-in-transit robbery.

In October 2021, five security guards transporting pension payout funds to Mpolweni Reserve in Ndwedwe were ambushed.
A gang disarmed them and took off with an undisclosed amount of money.
The cash van was set alight, and the robbers fled the scene.
Investigations later revealed that all five security guards were involved in the heist.

They were arrested and R60,000 recovered.
Two of the guards died while out on bail, and another turned state witness.
The remaining two, Phakamani Myaka and Muzikayifani Khoza, were sentenced to 15 years in prison on Tuesday in the Verulam Regional Court.
Myaka received an additional three years for defeating the ends of justice.
