It's emerged KwaZulu-Natal civil servants owe the National Student Financial Aid Scheme R400 million and Premier Senzo Mchunu is asking them to to pay it back.
This has been one of the discussion points at the Provincial Executive Council Lekgotla that is taking place in Durban.
Mchunu's spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya says they've established that over 15 000 government employees owe NSFAS.

"The civil servants must pay back this money so that we are able to assist the majority of young people who are unable to further their studies because of the lack of funding.
"Because of the high levels of poverty, the premier of the province of KZN has pointed out that the provincial government will do everything in its power to ensure the provision of quality education," he said.
The lekgotla is expected to continue for the rest of the week with other key areas to be discussed including the drought and job creation.
