KZN police hunt escaped murder, extortion suspects

A manhunt is underway for two murder and
extortion suspects who escaped during a gunfight with police in Mariannhill,
west of Durban.

One suspect was killed, while another was traced and found injured at a house not far from the crime scene on Wednesday.
Authorities said the group is wanted for murder and extortion cases in Chatsworth and Mariannhill.

"Police operationalised intelligence about four armed suspects who were travelling in a vehicle in the Mariannhill area," said provincial SAPS spokesperson Robert Netshiunda.
"The suspects' vehicle was intercepted on Mpanza Road in Savanah Park, and when police instructed them to stop, the suspects stopped the vehicle, got out and opened fire towards the police.
“During the shootout, one suspect was shot and fatally wounded. The search for the two outstanding suspects is ongoing."
