KZN performance 'vital' to country's academic narrative
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The head of the Department of Education in KZN has emphasised the importance of the province's exam performance, saying it single-handedly drives the national academic narrative.
On Thursday, Nkosinathi Ngcobo spoke during the last leg of the District Support Visits Programme in Newlands East.
The initiative targets schools that continue to record a poor matric pass rate.

Ngcobo says the programme is vital as KZN has the country's highest number of matric candidates, with Umlazi and Pinetown making up most of them.
"Eighty-three percent was the highest we have ever achieved as a province, and we are correct in comparing that class with the class of 2023.
"If, for example, we find that the cohort for 2023 is performing in the first term above the performance of the class of 2022 in the first term, we will have comfort that if we continue in that trajectory, our results will be good."
