KZN MEC to meet with MK veterans
Updated | By Nondumiso Zakwe
Some MK veterans feel they have been sidelined from the development.
The project offers low-cost housing for communities living in transit camps around the city.
During a visit to the site at the weekend, MK veteran Thabiso Sangweni raised concerns over the allocation process.
Sangweni says they are amongst those who fought for the country's freedom and were promised that they would be allocated houses.
He says many people feel let down 21 years into democracy.
''We saw an opportunity at Cornubia, we did not chase anyone out, these were houses that had been left unoccupied for months. It was never our intention to cause trouble, we just grew frustrated with waiting and we decided to occupy the empty houses but we will now wait patiently, our representatives say they are in negotiations over the issue,'' he said.
Sisulu says it is unfortunate that military veterans have been associated with invasions.
